Poetry of Perakee

---------------

FINE LINE

White bird flying down the middle of the road into the west.
His only claim to fame is that he didn't die trying to leave the nest.
He lives his life according to the omens that he sees.
There's a fine line dividing him from me.

A teenage boy driving down the middle of the road into the world.
His only claim to fame is his popularity with the girls.
He lives his life according to the images he sees on MTV.
There's a fine line dividing him from me.

White bird lying in the middle of the road, his race is run.
The only one to see his soul leave his body is the dying sun.
A million generations gave their lives to fill his destiny.
There's a fine line dividing him from me.
Yeah, there's a fine, fine line dividing you from me...

CRY OF THE ANCIENT WARRIORS

I came and watched the Manwolves dance a long time ago.
They called to me from beneath my feet, but I just couldn't go.
I knelt to feel a cooling stream, I felt the sinking sand.
I reached to grab the sacred gold but there was nothing in my hand.

I heard the screams of the terrified who couldn't pass the test,
Slain by the Watchers on the hill..... Guardians of the Quest.
I found the tomb of Taloh. he bid me come and see.
The lust for life in his yellow eyes as a trail of tears for me.

The doors that beckoned in my life have led me to this place.
Here I stand, an unworthy fool bound by the hands of Fate.
Now it's my turn to make my bid, the arrows point straight at me!
I must calm the beast inside my breast if I'm ever to be free!

The ancient warriors called me back
          To step inside the Gate!
And if I turn and walk away....
We both know it'll be too damned late!

(excerpt from) WATER FROM THE WELL

Down by the creek where the water runs red,
Surrounded by the bones of the ancient dead,
I drew a cup of water from the Human well.
The wise man knows what the wise men tell!

A full moon is rising down the Corridor.
The Scarlet Woman says, "There will be war!"
So when I die and go to hell,
Just throw my cup of water back into the well!

CREEK WHERE THE WATER RUNS RED

He was white, she was red.
If the folks found out, they'd both be dead.
Oh, the games they played
By the Creek where the water runs red...

But their love, they can't hide,
When she became ripe with child.
They killed the lovers
By the creek where the water runs red...

The child lay dead but sleeping.
I heard the suckling cry.
I found here there
By the creek where the water runs red.

The child had never been fed.
I built a home and gave her my bread.
I raised her there
By the creek where the water runs red.

Arcadia, child of the underground stream!
          Arcadia, queen of the prophesies!
There are those who deny her so.
But there are those who know the truth
          Of what happened that day
By the creek where the water runs red!

She grew into a beautiful lady.
Her story has never been told.
Now thunder will roll again,
For her coming has been foretold!

Thirty four north, ninety three west.
Come see for yourself.
She waits for you
By the creek where the water runs red!

DOG DAYS

My father's words are gone,
They've all but been erased.
The Old Ways never died-
They've only been replaced.
Law and order is over,
Confusion takes its place,
But the truth you can't deny
When it slaps you in the face!

          Dog Days are on us!
Like the full moon in August!
It's the year of the Wolf!
          Again they walk among us!
And a thousand eyes are watching....

In days when Light was whiter,
Manwolves walked in shadows.
Dancers were a danger
To good and lawful fellows.
Now superstition is gone.
There's nothing left to blame.
So cry in your mirror-
You can never hide your shame!

          Dog days are on us!
Like the full moon of August!
In the year of the wolf!
          Again they walk among us!
And a thousand eyes are shining....

The Manwolf hides no more-
See me as I am!
The world has turned your head,
But she never gave a damn.
Children of the Rock,
You are free to open doors.
Resurrect you wounded hearts
And run with me once more!

For Dog Days are on us!
Like the full moon of August!
It's the year of the Wolf!
          Again they walk among us!
And a thousand eyes are smiling....

THERE WILL BE WAR

Lord of the rings and long-haired kings, seven black ships sailed into the west.
Fear came to rise in the gypsy's eyes as the Whore launched her unholy Quest.
Bones in the mud and rivers of blood as the innocence bled and burned away.
Nightmare scenes and guillotines as darkness veiled the light of day....

When the purple rein turns red, and the she-wolf howls at night,
Warriors of the southern skies do battle with the northern lights.
When the middle full moon turns black and the blood of the owl runs cold,
Cloven hooves stalk the hearts of men...... bunker down and guard your Soul!
--------
      Chorus:
For the egg man, she comes!
And the goddess don't care no more!
The elder gods open up their eyes and smile---
          There will be war!
--------
In the eyes of the Wheel the world is an evil place.
But have no fear...... a button is pushed and the evil is erased!
Too bad you're in the crossfire! Say good-bye to your baby's face!
Retribution of the madman supersedes the law of grace!
--------
     Chorus:
--------
For a man to be a man he has to count his coup.
He looks somewhere outside himself...... he's looking right at you!
But a true man among men will hang his head in shame.
He knows the only man worth killing is the man who bears his name....
---------
     Chorus:
---------

Here are a couple of poems that deal with the battle that rages in the hearts of Man, most dramatically in Perakee, as seen from 2 different perspectives. The first was copyrighted by me in 1995. The second was copyrighted in 1997 by my friend and cowriter, Calvin McWha, who has a single SL.

SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY

Proud tears, oh, bitter tears, bury you dead with head held high.
Let them think they won the fight...... don't let them see you cry.
Don't you say a single word, turn your anger into ice.
Your father knows, yeah, your father knows the foolishness of foolish pride.

I will fight no more forever!
Let the wisdom come to me.
I will wait a thousand years
          Sleeping with the enemy....

Wounded Knee, oh, Wounded Knee..... you let my people pay the price.
You tried to speak, you tried to speak. Ahhhhh, a lot of good men died.
Hear the screams on the wind, children crying from the grave.
Follow me, oh, follow me before there's no one left to save.

I will fight no more forever!
Let the wisdom come to me.
I will wait a thousand years
          Sleeping with the enemy....

You were foretold they would come to drive your dreams into dust.
What a waste! Such a waste..... my people torn by battle lust!
No one listened! I will listen! Spirit speak, I am yours!
Let my children's children's children live free again once more!

I will fight no more forever!
Let the wisdom come to me.
I will wait a thousand years
          Sleeping with the enemy......

THE REIGN

BY CALVIN MCWHA

Dark clouds gather low, there is a storm on the wind.
With lightning flash and thunder roll, the reign is moving in.
Great change in the atmosphere as the cyclone tears its path!
Is there one who is standing here who will live to see the aftermath?

There are those who are strong enough,
With iron will to bear the pain.
But is there one who is bold enough
           To stand against the Reign?

From the eye of the storm you can see what's coming down.
Though you may feel safe and warm the reign is all around!
Elementals waging war as the powers now engage!
Charging in with a mighty roar the reign begins to rage!
Feel the power of the reign as it tries to beat you down!
We will all be swept away if we don't move to higher ground!

There are those who are strong enough
With iron will to bear the pain.
But is the one who is bold enough
          To stand against the Reign?

There are many facets to Perakee. Not all of them are pleasant. We are, at times, our own worst enemy.

But when work gets me down, I think of woodpeckers. And I realize no matter what I am doing, it is better than banging my lips against a tree to make a living:)
